The Family Names
The Boggitts were from the area around Huttons Ambo in North Yorkshire, some of them in service in one of the Great Houses of the area. The Bonds originate in Somerset. Isaac Bond moved to Lancashire in the 1860′s probably to avoid the workhouse and made a good business with three fish and chip shops – and it would appear a side business of bookmaking. That dedication to service and the entrepreneurial spirit lives on in Boggitt and Bond, although not the bookmaking – we prefer not to gamble with our clients’ satisfaction.
Mrs Boggitt & Mr Bond
How and when Mrs Boggitt and Mr Bond met isn’t really clear, although it is suspected it may have been an encounter on a railway platform, Mr Bond inevitably rushing for another client appointment suddenly finding himself more interested in the conversation with Mrs Boggitt than in his planned business meeting. Echoes of Rachmaninov may have led to some Sinatra – nobody is really sure; it seems there are some questions one doesn’t ask……..
